What is ACTIVISM?
The Activism Team puts Tea Party principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to the Constitution into ACTION! “Activism” includes everything from calling your representatives, to block-walking on behalf of conservative candidates, to registering new voters. Generally, our activities fall into three main categories: Get Out The Vote (GOTV), Issues & Legislation Lobbying, and identifying Conservative Candidates.
The Activism Team is working in our neighborhoods and community organizations; at the local, state and national levels of government; and with other like-minded groups to put our conservative principles into action. Activism projects are coordinated with Training, Education, Events and other teams to ensure that North Houston Tea Party Patriots is an effective and respected force for conservative change in Montgomery & Harris County and beyond.

How Can I Get Involved in ACTIVISM?
The Activism Team needs YOU to be a team member or project leader in whatever area fires your political passion! The extent of our Tea Party influence is limited only by the willingness of our members (that’s YOU!) to take action in support of our principles. What ACTIVISM Projects Can I Work On?
Each and every NHTPP member has a valuable role to play in achieving our goal of effecting conservative change, and Activism has all kinds of projects in the works right now just waiting for YOUR time and talents:
-
GET OUT THE (CONSERVATIVE) VOTE [GOTV]
Neighborhood Networking – “Community Organizing for Conservatives” – identify and connect with our conservative neighbors and build informed, cohesive voting blocs.
ACTIONS = Act as a “neighborhood captain”, organize NHTPP members by neighborhood, survey neighbors, data entry, work within existing precinct/neighborhood structures to expand our influence, initiate neighborhood social/political gatherings. More about Neighborhood Networking.
-
True the Vote – Initiative of our LINKS partner King Street Patriots to return integrity to elections in Harris and surrounding counties – detect & deter fraudulent voting in voter registration, absentee balloting, and at the polls.
ACTIONS = Train as a Poll Worker, verify voter rolls and absentee ballots, work the polls on Election Day to detect/deter voter fraud. More about True the Vote.
-
Voter Registration – Register as many new conservative voters as possible – train as Deputy Voter Registrars and hold registration drives targeted to likely-conservative voters.
ACTIONS = Become a Deputy Voter Registrar in Harris and/or Montgomery County, arrange/work voter registration drives. More about Voter Registration.

CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES
EDUCATE > ACTIVATE: We citizen-patriots know that it is our civic responsibility to be informed voters. To that end, the North Houston Tea Party Patriots seeks to:
Educate our members and our community about local, state and national candidates whose principles and stands on the issues are in line with the Constitution and Tea Party principles.
Activate our members with training and individual opportunities to effectively Get Out The Vote for the candidates who best represent our values. (NHTPP does not “endorse” or financially support candidates, though of course our individual members are free to do so.)
ACTIONS = Identify & vet candidates, educate ourselves & our neighbors about candidates’ stands on the issues (post candidate information on our website, host candidate forums, create/distribute candidate guides), participate in Activism training, support conservative candidates of our choice. More on Candidates.
-
ISSUES & LEGISLATION LOBBYING
Legislator Letters – In conjunction with Legislative Alerts, make it EASY for our members to interact with representatives – post sample letters/talking points and legislators’ contact info on our website. Magnify our impact – identify all messages as from Tea Party Patriots.
ACTIONS = Post background info on legislative issues, compose messages to legislators on timely issues/bills, contact representatives using sample messages as a guide, maintain local/state/US representatives’ current contact info on website. How to Contact Your Representatives.
-
Local Government Watchdogs – “Watchdogs” monitor and report on activities of city council, school district board, and municipal/county governmental units.
ACTIONS = Attend and report on (via website) meetings & issues of local governing body, post meeting dates on the Calendar.
-
Spread the Word – Include our conservative viewpoint in the public dialogue.
ACTIONS = Post articles and commentary on websites, Facebook, etc; add comments to articles on local/state/national news sites; call in to talk radio shows; maintain on the website a list of news sites, blogs, radio schedules. See Media Contacts.
